Samsung Electronics announced Thursday that it will unveil its new Galaxy Note 9 premium smartphone at 11 a.m. in New York on Aug. 9, confirming the official debut date for its latest device.

The Korean tech giant sent out invitations to journalists and partners to join its flagship “Samsung Galaxy Unpacked” showcase event, which will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event will be livestreamed on Samsung.com.

In the invite, Samsung unveiled a close-up photo of what appears to be a button on an S Pen stylus, which accompanies the Galaxy Note series. What stands out is that the stylus is painted in a golden yellow -- an unusual hue for Samsung.

According to news reports and leaked sources, the upcoming flagship Note 9 is expected to adopt a number of changes in exterior design and function.

The Galaxy Note 9 is expected to adopt a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, slightly larger than that of the Note 8, as well as the largest-ever battery volume of between 3,850 to 4,000 milliamperes per hour.

A leaked image of a possible protective case for the Note 9, posted by Twitter user @UniverseIce, shows the fingerprint sensor module placed below the camera module at the rear of the smartphone, similar to the Galaxy S9 series.

Samsung seems to have again postponed adoption of an in-display fingerprint sensor for the Note due to technological difficulties for mass production, according to industry watchers.

In addition, the Note 9 is set to be equipped with Bixby 2.0, an upgraded version of Samsung’s artificial intelligence platform, to offer enhanced natural language processes, improved noise resistance capability and quicker response times.
