WASHINGTON -- The White House on Tuesday announced the retirement of Deputy Chief of Staff Joe Hagin, who led logistical preparations for last week's historic summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Hagin headed a delegation to Singapore in recent weeks to prepare for the June 12 meeting in the city-state.
"Joe Hagin has been a huge asset to my administration," Trump said in a statement. "He planned and executed the longest and one of the most historic foreign trips ever made by a President, and he did it all perfectly."
Trump added his thanks for Hagin's "remarkable service" to his country.
Hagin's counterpart from North Korea was Kim Chang-son, who is known as the North Korean leader's de facto chief of staff. The two sides held several rounds of talks before deciding on the summit's venue -- the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island -- time, and other logistical details.
Hagin served in four administrations under presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Trump.
He is expected to return to the private sector. (Yonhap)
