NU’EST W is preparing a new album for release this month, its agency said Friday.

According to Pledis Entertainment, the K-pop act is currently putting the finishing touches on the album and has decided on its lead track. It marks the first record for the boy band -- a subunit of NU’EST -- since its first EP “W,Here” in October last year.

The group had a tumultuous 2017, with dramatic ups and downs. After years of obscurity since its 2012 debut, it sent one of its members, Minhyun, to the audition program “Produce 101 Season 2.” He was among 11 winners who were to become part of the project boy band Wanna One.

The band regrouped into NU’EST W, with W standing for “wait” for Minhyun. Despite the loss of its member, the group’s songs belatedly gained popularity as it finally inched toward stardom.

An unexpected obstacle hindered the team, however, as member Baekho was accused of sexual harassment. Despite the allegations, he was cleared of the charges in April, allowing the band members another shot at becoming big-time K-pop stars.
