Construction material supplier LG Hausys is expanding its production of phenolic foam, high-functioning semi-noncombustible insulation, with the completion of the construction of its second production line in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

The firm said it has begun mass-producing PF insulation at its new production line following a trial run in early May. It comes after the company injected some 54 billion won ($50 million) to build the production line last year.

PF insulation is fire resistant and produces almost no toxic gas when burnt. They also insulate better than other typical materials like Styrofoam.

LG Hausys first began mass-producing PF insulation boards in 2013, the first attempt in the domestic insulation market.

Following the completion, LG Hausys is now capable of large-scale production of 9 million square meters in size, about threefold more than when it only had one production line. The amount could provide PF insulation to 70,000 units of 84 square-meter houses, the company said.

Its new production line, which was designed with automation and process optimization facilities, will also increase productivity, the company said.

“With increasing demand for highly efficient PF insulation, we will not only increase the production scale but also focus on product development,” said Park Ki-bong, a vice president at LG Hausys.
