The biennial congress of the International Federation of Photographic Art will be held in Korea from Aug. 22-28.

The UNESCO-registered body of professional photographers, known as FIAP, an acronym of its French name, will bring together some 400 photographers from 87 member countries to network and showcase major photographs selected from each member country.

“The 33th FIAP Congress unites photographers around the world to one place to celebrate photography. I hope the event highlights the importance of photography as a means of communication and cooperation,” said Yang Jae-heon, the chairman of the Photo Artist Society of Korea, which is hosting the FIAP Seoul congress. 

In Seoul, FIAP members will walk around major landmarks, such as Gyeongbok and Changdeok palaces, Namsan Hanok Village and N Seoul Tower, and take photographs with citizens to capture the uniqueness of the capital city from Aug. 22-23.

Some 480 photographs will go on exhibit from Aug. 24-28 in the historic city of Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, along with some 60 works by teenage photographers featured at the 38th FIAP Youth Print Biennial in Oman.

The exhibition, held as part of the FIAP’s Black and White Biennial, includes major works of the world’s leading photographers, including Korean photographer Park Su-bae, who won the silver medal for the 33th Black and White Biennial.

The congress will hold an official ceremony to award winners of the biennial exhibition on Aug. 25 at Gyeongju Hyundai Hotel.
