LG Electronics will be holding a global launching ceremony for its G2 smartphones in New York City.

LG’s latest brainchild will be on display on Aug. 7 at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City near Central Park, the company said, with invites sent out to more than 500 media outlets.

“We decided the importance of the North American market and the strength of the American carriers were good enough reasons for us to decide on New York,” said Ken Hong, a spokesperson for LG Electronics.

LG reportedly considered a number of global cities such as Hong Kong and London before settling on the Big Apple.

LG is currently the third-largest handset maker in North America, with Apple and Samsung in the top two positions.

The electronics maker has pinned high hopes on the LTE-A-enabled G2 to keep the low- and mid-end Chinese competition at bay. At the same time, the new phones will have to cement LG’s status as one of the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers.

Chung Do-hyun, the chief finance officer of LGE, on Wednesday expressed confidence of beating the competition, which will inevitably include Samsung.

“This is the product that will lead the market,” he said, adding that the G2 has prove worthy in all aspects, including user experience, hardware edge and design.
