Hana, KEB join hands for overseas CSR program

Hana Bank and the Korea Exchange Bank under the Hana Financial Group are stepping up their cooperation in their overseas joint social contributions.

In Indonesia, the two banks joined hands to cook and hand-deliver 500 food boxes to households in poor areas in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

The Indonesian offices of Hana Bank and KEB came up with the food box run, which closely resonates with “served-hot meal donations,” which has been Koreans’ signature social charity activity.

In the process, the two banks also collaborated with a Korean food donator.

The volunteer service involved not only the banks’ employees but also their husbands, wives and children.

Hana and the KEB said that they would make the overseas food run a regular social contribution activity that the employees and their families could participate in.

The two said in a statement that they “would gradually increase the participation of local employees and search for new channels of community service through local institutions and networks.”

Besides the food run in Indonesia, the two banks have carried out joint community services in China as well.

The Chinese corporation of Hana Bank and the KEB delivered summer living necessities to the children of an orphanage in Taiyangcun, Beijing, on June 20.

The necessities included anti-mosquito products, electric fans and snacks. The two banks’ volunteer employees communicated with the children in Chinese.

“Those kids know that their parents are alive, but still cannot meet them. It is something very hard to bear for young kids,” said a Hana Bank official.

China runs six Taiyangcun orphanages but insufficient state support makes private donations necessary, the two banks said.

Meantime, Hana and the KEB volunteers delivered books, living necessities and fertilizer to Chinese neighbors in need in Langfang City, Hebei province, in December, 2012.

The Langfang volunteer service marks the two banks’ second joint social sharing project in mainland China since 2012.
