South Korean tech behemoth Samsung Electronics Co. retained its top position in the east European countries’ television market in the first nine months of the year, industry data showed Monday.

Samsung claimed 35 percent of the region’s flat panel television market in the January-September period, with its market share reaching 35.1 percent for liquid crystal TVs and 38.7 percent for light-emitting diode TVs, according to market researcher GfK Group.

The South Korean company was the top smart TV and 3-D TV seller in the former communist countries, with shares of 42.4 percent and 43.7 percent, respectively, over the same period, added the data.

The data showed that Samsung’s products stood out in Romania, as its flat panel TVs grabbed 46.6 percent and LCD TVs had 57 percent in September. Samsung dominated the country’s larger TV market over 46 inches, with a share of 78 percent.

Samsung officials said its marketing campaigns carried out in Romania, Hungary and three Baltic countries contributed to the overwhelming market share.

“We have made efforts to establish strong regional sales networks in the East European countries including Romania, along with providing quality products and the best service to the customers,” said an official from Samsung. “We will do our best to raise our brand image throughout Europe.” (Yonhap News)
